Cite Check a plugin for ChatGPT
Every citation,checked.
Cite Check tests the sources in a ChatGPT answer against real scholarly records, before you put your name on them.
ChatGPT writes references with total confidence.
Some of those papers were never written.
You find out when someone else checks.
So check first.
How it works
- 01
Ask if the sources are real
Each reference is looked up by DOI, title, author and year. Real ones pass. Invented ones don't.
- 02
Replace the bad ones
Cite Check finds genuine, indexed publications on the same point and formats them for you.

What it does
DOIs and titles
Matched against Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex and Open Library.
Wrong details
A real paper with the wrong year, author or journal gets flagged.
Dead links
Every URL is tested. When a page is gone, it finds an archived copy.
Six styles
APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE and BibTeX, ready to copy.
Your reference manager
Export .ris or .bib for Zotero, EndNote and Mendeley.
Your data
What we keep
- Nothing. Each check runs and is forgotten.
What we never do
- We don't store what you check.
- We don't train on it.
- Registries only see titles, DOIs and names.
ChatGPT sends an anonymous id, never your name or email. We store only a one-way hash of it. Read the privacy policy
Questions
Does verified mean the paper supports my point?
No. It means the paper exists and matches the citation. Read the ones that matter.
Why would a real source show as not found?
Some theses, reports and very new work aren't indexed yet. Open the search link and check by hand.
